2013 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder

hennessey venom gt spyder picture

The sleek and sexy Hennessey Venom GT became a successful model in a very short time and Hennessey is hoping to repeat that success with an open top version of the same sports car. The new Hennessey Venom GT Spyder will be offered with a removable top and will only be produced in a limited run of five units, two of which have already been spoken for. Deliveries will begin in Summer 2012 and prices will start from $1.1 million, about $150,000 more than the Coupe’s top version.
The Venom GT Spyder will be powered by the same Chevrolet sourced V8 engine found in the Coupe with an output of 1,200 HP at 6,500 rpm and 1,155 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. Because of the added weight from the removable roof, performance numbers should be a tad bit slower than the Coupe, which sprints from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds and to 200 mph in 15.9 seconds, on its way up to a top speed of 275 mph. The engine will more than likely send its power to the rear wheels via a Ricardo 6-speed gearbox and handling will be facilitated by a KW variant three-adjustable coilover suspension.
As far as its design goes, the Venom GT Spyder will start off with the Lotus Elise base and will follow along the same extreme design lines as its Coupe sibling. We imagine it will also feature the same active aero system with adjustable rear wing that will deploy under varying conditions on both the road and racetrack.
"With the hardtop in place, the Venom GT offers a very visceral, raw, driving experience," said Hennessey CEO, Don Goldman. "With the hardtop removed, the wind and the growl of the twin turbo V8 will offer our clients an even greater driving sensation."
The 1,200 HP will make the Venom GT Spyder the most powerful convertible in the world. Will it also be the fastest? We believe it will, but Hennessey will have to keep that 275 mph top speed intact.

2012 BMW B3 GT3 by Alpina

Noted BMW tuning company, Alpina, has come out with a pair of new programs for 2012 BMW models. One of the models is for the 2012 3-Series, which they’re dubbing as the ’B3 GT3.’ The comprehensive tuning program includes aerodynamic, suspension, and performance modifications, offering fans of the iconic 3-Series a smorgasbord of improvements on the sports coupe.
For the aerodynamic program, Alpina fitted the 3-Series with a carbon fiber front splitter that has been mounted under the car’s front spoiler, as well as new dive plates that were added on the side of the car’s front valence. The rear end of the 3-Series also got some improvements in the form of a carbon wing and a new rear diffuser, and the package is completed by a new wheel and tire setup consisting of a new set of 19" Alpina GT3 Classic lightweight alloys wheels wrapped in a choice of either Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup+ tires. Inside, the improvements were limited to a new black leather finish with matching Alcantara and Recaro sport seats.
As one of the most popular BMW tuners in the world, Alpina has made a name for itself for their outstanding engine upgrades. Their work on the 2012 B3 GT3 is no different, thanks to a modified exhaust system and a titanium new rear silencer that added juice to the car’s already modified 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine. The result is an output of 402 horsepower and 398 lb/ft of torque, numbers that are good enough to hit 0-62 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
The only downside to the 2012 B3 GT3 program is that Alpina will only build 99 units of it. The cost for one has been pegged at €90,000, which is around $121,300 based on current exchange rates.

2012 Audi A1 Samurai Blue

In the middle of all the concept debuts and race prototypes being unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, one car that’s neither of those things is fetching some serious attention.
The car is a special one-off Audi A1 that’s inspired by the Japanese National Soccer Team. Affectionately called the A1 Samurai Blue, the one-off car has been dressed in the official colors - blue and white - of the Samurai Blue, the nickname given to the country’s soccer team. Complimenting the two-color exterior paint finish is a red color - the same hue as that of the Japanese flag - that was used on the rear spoiler and the set of 18" wheels provided. The exterior also sports the logo of the Blue Samurais on both sides of the car, as well as on the roof.
The interior equipment of the A1 Samurai Blue has been dressed in black with contrasting blue stitching. Colorful accents are also found on various parts of the interior, including the air vent nozzle, the inlays, the center console, and the floor mats.
Under its hood, no performance enhancements were done on the car so the A1 Samurai Blue is powered by a standard 1.4-liter TFSI engine that produces 122 horsepower. No surprise there.
The whole purpose of the A1 Samurai Blue is for Audi to sell the one-off model and have part of the profit donated to charity. So if you happen to have a heart of gold and fancy a one-off Audi A1 like this, you might need to get to stepping and be the lucky one to go home with this ultra exclusive piece of A1 eye candy.

2012 Volkswagen Cross Coupe Concept

volkswagen cross coupe concept picture

German automaker, Volkswagen, is using the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show to unveil a pretty unique concept vehicle called the Cross Coupe.
We say unique because the Cross Coupe was designed with a bevy of new features, both characterized by a new design architecture and a new hybrid power train set-up. The latter of the two is an all-wheel drive hybrid drivetrain that features a turbocharged gas engine and a pair of electric motors that are found on both the front axle and the rear axle of the SUV.
As far as the design of the Cross Coupe is concerned, there are plenty of new languages that you can expect to see in a lot of Volkswagen’s future models, and not necessarily on a production version of this concept.
All told, the Volkswagen Cross Coupe Concept paints a real good pictureof the future of Volkswagen. It may not end up as a stand-alone production model, but as with most concepts go, it gives us a taste of what to expect from the German automaker moving forward.
